LP I-Joists

Alberta Truss stocks a large range of LP I- Joists in 9 1/2", 11 7/8", 14" and 16" depths and in several series and lengths.

This ensures their customers get the best fit and most economical engineered floor or roofs joists for your residential, commercial, or agricultural building needs.

What are I-Joists?

I-Joists are a prefabricated joist suited for long span construction in residential and commercial buildings. The "I" shape of the joist is formed by a top and bottom flange usually constructed of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) or machine stress rated (MSR) lumber and glued together with a oriented strand board (OSB) web. This "I" shape gives the joist great strength, while maintaining a light weight. Since they are manufactured they have a uniform strength and stiffness unlike traditional dimensional lumber.

For more information on prefabricated wood I-joists in general please visit the Canadian Wood Council.

Why use I-Joists?

  • Large range of depths and series available
  • Uniform depth and strength
  • Prefabrication nearly eliminates warping, shrinkage, crowning and splitting
  • Wide top flange allows for easy installation of sheathing
  • Span farther and can carry more load
  • Environmentally friendly as wood is used efficiently
  • Weight less for easy handling and installation
  • Factory pre-punched knock-out holes to easily fascilitate electrical installation or ventilation
  • Easily modifided on site with standard framing tools
  • Increased freedom of design

    LVL Beams

Alberta Truss stocks a large range of LP LVL in 9 1/2", 11 7/8", 14", 16" and 18" depths in many lengths and in two series. LVL beams will ensure strong and straight engineered beams or headers for roof and floor applications in your residential, commercial, or aggricultural buildings.

    What is LVL?

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is a building material made of thin layers of wood veneers sandwiched and glued together with the wood grain of the veneers running in parallel to each other. The resulting layered composite material is substantially stronger than traditional dimensional lumber.

For more information on laminated veneer lumber (LVL) in general visit the Canadian Wood Council.

    Why use LVL?

  • Premanufacturing nearly eliminates warping, crowning and twisting
  • Pound for pound is stronger than traditional dimensional lumber
  • Can be made in custom sizes
  • Easily modified on site with standard framing tools
  • Increased freedom of design
  • Longer spans and can carry more load
  • Uniform depth and strength
  • Can be custom ordered with a weather-resistant coating
  • Free of knots, grain slopes and splits
